While interning at Chatwin Books in Seattle, Washington, I lived with a woman named Candace Doyal. She was one of our authors and an old friend I’d met in California. A rough-and-tumble type, Candace worked in labor and service industry.

This Thing Is About To End was published in June of 2016. It is a vulnerable and painful series of poems and staged photographs, contrasted to the letters her mother sent her from prison. The juxtaposition between creative material and source material is a difficult experience, and challenges the reader to not look away.
